Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota (CHD MS)

Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota (CHD MS) is a non-profit private institute, which was established by the Institute of Public Health Murska Sobota with the support of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia in 2005 to promote research, education, investments in health and sustainable development in the Pomurje region and beyond.

 In 2009 the Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota became a WHO Collaborating Centre for the mandate of four years with the programme to implement capacity building in the field of intersectoral investment in health. The main goal has been to share and transfer the good practices and capacity building activities to the Member State Healthcare Network in Southeast Europe in the fields of social determinants, reduction of health inequalities and intersectoral investment in health. In October 2014 the Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota received new designation as World Health Organization’s Collaborating Centre for Cross-sectoral Approaches to Health and Development for another four years.

The Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota has built a capacity building network on reducing the health inequalities in Pomurje and beyond over the years, in accordance with the mission and vision of creating a better quality of life for all residents of Pomurje and beyond. It has been widely involved in many projects and programmes, connected with a number of partner organizations in Pomurje, Slovenia and Europe, gaining a lot of experience in various fields, such as healthy food, promotion of short food supply chains for healthier diets, healthy and active ageing, physical activity, social determinants of health and health inequalities, sustainable rural development, sustainable tourism development and more.

In more than fifteen years of work Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota was a lead partner or a project partner in over 40 international projects and cooperated in more than 70 different projects on international, national, regional or local level.
