On Friday we drove back east, so we had the chance to enjoy the view, as the way from Milan to Bra on Tuesday, the day of our arrival, was pitch dark by the time we drove. As we approached Turin, the rural areas transformed to what the modern world looks like today: rapidly rebuilt areas, after the Second World War, with a city planning structure, protected by the Roman architectural mastery of the past. Thursdays’ morning set up finds us in the UniSG’s garden picking the ingredients we are going to use in the lab, in a “From Farm to Table” session. This will be our lunch out in the courtyard of the ancient royal farmhouse, a monumental complex built by Carlo Alberto of Savoy in the first half of the nineteenth century. 21 September 2022 The day started early with a guided tour by Gabriella Morini at the UNISG. Bartolomeo Biolatti, the Rector of the University of Gastronomic Sciences, and Carlo Petrini, the founder and President of the International Slow Food Movement, welcomed us while wandering around in the long green fields and the farmhouses, the Agency Building, the tower overlooking the church square and the neo-gothic Parish of San Vittore. Arriving at Milan Malpensa airport we spent some time walking along its corridors where several shops are offering "some Italian flair and food quality" in a rather clumsy way. The bus took us to Bra and as it was already getting dark we could hardly see any of the places on the way, so either we chatted or stayed lost in our thoughts.
