Starting Period: 09-2020

Country of Venue: Italy

Event Leading Organisation: UNISG

Description: The 1st Learn4Earth Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils (C3) will be held in August 2021 in Pollenzo, Italy and will be facilitated by Università degli Studi di Scienze Gastronomiche (UNISG) in collaboration with AAU. The venue will be the campus and facilities of UNISG, where several meetings and activities of a similar nature have been successfully conducted. The duration of 1st Learn4Earth Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils will be 3 working days and will be scheduled in a way to ensure the easiest and most cost-effective travel itinerary for the participating pupils. Importantly, the 1st Learn4Earth Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils (C3) will be held in conjunction and parallel with C3, the 2nd Learn4Earth Short-term joint staff training event. This will result in some activities and sessions conducted in parallel, and some activities and sessions conducted with participating partners and pupils blended.

The 1st Learn4Earth Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils will consist of workshops, where the participating pupils and the accompanying teachers will be invited to participate at the UNISG LAB where they will test the new and innovative methods and approaches developed in IO6 – Science and Food Literacy in the Kitchen. This will include implementing, experimenting with and testing selected hands-on activities which revolves around the ‘why’ of food transformation and includes sensory, food history, and -heritage. The workshops will work with problem-based learning and user-centred approaches and will have a special focus on learning at eye level, to include the pupils’ inputs and thereby develop further on the new and innovative elements to include in The Science in Food Literacy Teaching Manual of IO6 and subsequently in the final Learn4Earth Handbook. The 1st Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils (C3) will happen parallel to this Short-term joint staff training event. Conducting these two Learning/Teaching/Training Activities (C2 and C3) in conjunction with each other will allow the Learn4Earth project to conduct some important activities and sessions with participating partners and pupils blended.

Importantly, this will allow all participating partners the optimal framework to work positively to develop, implement, discuss, evaluate and reflect with their colleagues, resulting in an optimal cross-sectoral collaboration between participants in the involved universities, schools, organisations and practitioners and will successfully support the achievement of the project’s innovative objectives. This will allow the participating pupils the opportunity to try and experience the newly developed teaching methodologies and thereby create room for discussions and sharing of best practices for the Learn4Earth partnership. Further, this will support the user-centred approach and provide the Learn4Earth project with essential user insights as well as create communication between pupils, university students, teachers, researchers and other relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, the 1st Learn4Earth Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils will include a cultural programme consisting of visits to relevant sights and stakeholders as well as age-appropriate fun activities to strengthen the teamwork and collaboration within the group. The participating pupils will gain new experiences through all these activities, as well as new intercultural competencies, strengthened language skills and new awareness regarding European partnerships applicable back at their respective schools and at home as well..

The participants will consist of 2 pupils from each of the following schools: Arden School, Denmark, Fundació Escoles Garbí, Spain and Osnovna sola Franceta Preserna Crensovci, Slovenia, in total 6 pupils. Participants will further include 2 accompanying teachers from these partner schools as well as one person from the leading organisation UNISG. Pupils will be chosen by their schools according to criteria decided in collaboration between the school and the Learn4Earth partnership.
